Dr. Roos' Qualifications

University of Pretoria Veterinary Class of 1953

What many of her clients don't know, is that Dr Roos was only the fourth woman in South Africa to qualify as a veterinarian. In 1949 she started at Pretoria University and at the end of her first year, the top 15 students were selected to go to Onderstepoort - at that time still mainly a veterinary research institute. There the young Margaret found herself to be the only woman in a class of very skeptical men, but she graduated in 1953 and returned to Durban. At first she worked with a radiologist and lectured at Durban Technical College, but soon started her own practice.
